Coping With the Loss of a Beloved Pet

For anyone who has experienced the loss of a much loved pet, an important part of coping with the bereavement is to accept that grief is a perfectly normal emotion and not something which should be hidden. If friends or family members have never had the joy of sharing life with a pet they may well dismiss your mourning, expecting you to quickly forget and move on.

Remembering all the happy times you have spent together however, ensures the intense bond and love is never broken. At Pets Remembered we understand how a pet memorial can help to celebrate the life of a pet companion, rather than focusing on the trauma of their passing.

After the loss of family or a close friend, we go through certain rituals that enable us to show respect and love for someone we have shared a special relationship with. A pet companion is no different and in fact you will often have spent more time together than anyone in your life; completely dependent for your constant care and attention. In return they will have given unconditional love, loyalty and trust, remaining by your side through both the good and the more difficult times.

Selecting an appropriate tribute such as a bespoke pet casket or pet urn will provide a physical link, helping to keep the memory alive. These can be personalised with a name or inscription, perhaps containing a pet's favourite toy or lock of hair.

Memorialising a pet can be a great comfort and very therapeutic in the processing of grief. A memorial plaque marking a special place in the garden as a reminder of all the treasured times you have spent together, will ensure the memories last forever and the unique bond is always with you.

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”
